They started as volunteers and went a long way — becoming high-precision hunters. These fighters don’t just fly — they strike with pinpoint accuracy.
With each passing day, war becomes more high-tech. The edge now belongs to those who embrace modern solutions. Today, drones are both eyes and weapons — tools that strike where the enemy least expects it.
“Our story began in March 2022, in a Kharkiv engulfed in flames,” recalls Oleksandr “KOK”, a senior soldier in the battalion.
“Back then, there was no clear rear line, not enough weapons, and no certainty about tomorrow. But we had resolve. We came together as part of the ‘Azov’ Kharkiv Special Operations Forces — a volunteer unit that became the city’s human shield. We fought — hitting the enemy where they didn’t expect it: in the forests, on the outskirts, deep behind the lines. We struck hard, precisely, without fluff— because we were defending our homes.”
From the beginning, they bet on drone systems, and that choice has dramatically increased their effectiveness. They played a critical role in the liberation of the Kharkiv Region, then took part in missions around Bakhmut.
In 2023, the combat core of “Azov” Kharkiv was reorganized into the 97th Separate Mechanized Battalion within the 60th Mechanized Brigade. With this evolution came growth — a larger team, better equipment, and the launch of a powerful aerial reconnaissance and FPV drone program.
The battalion was deployed to the Donetsk front, where they held key positions, took out enemy infantry and armor, and conducted active combat drone operations.
In spring 2025, a combat unit based on the 97th battalion officially joined the 411th Separate UAV Unit “Hawks”. They are now known as the 3rd Battalion “Wings”.
Their fighters, armed with unique battlefield experience, sharpen their skills daily and the results speak for themselves.
“We see the enemy where they think they’re invisible. And we don’t just watch — we destroy. We don’t leave targets behind,” the defenders say.
Within the battalion, advanced UAV crews operate, carrying out combat missions every single day. Their tools: strike drones, payload drops, and FPVs. For them, staying charged and connected is mission-critical — that’s why we’re raising funds for a power station for the 3rd Battalion “Wings.”
